Lameness Locator

Wireless motion sensors that measure subtle or multi-limb lameness the eye can miss.

Our practice was one of the first in the area to use the Lameness Locator, and it continues to prove itself a great asset in complicated lameness examinations. The Lameness Locator is a wireless motion-analysis system that uses sensors and advanced motion algorithms to analyze your horse’s gait.

Three inertial sensors are placed on the horse: on the poll, on the right front pastern and along the top of the pelvis. As the horse trots in a straight line or is longed on a circle, data is sent to the software and a detailed gait report is ready for the veterinarian right away. The report identifies which legs are contributing to the lameness and estimates when in the stride the lameness occurs, pinpointing pain to the impact, push-off or swing phase.

This unbiased assessment is especially helpful for multi-limb lameness, or a very subtle lameness that is felt more than seen. It does not replace a clinical examination; it gives us additional data that removes confounding variables and helps us find subtle problems before they are visible to the naked eye.
